About the Digital Education Council Global Summit 2024
Over 100 global leaders gathered in Singapore on 5 - 6 November 2024 as part of the proceedings at the Digital Education Council Global Summit 202, hosted at Singapore Management University.
With leaders representing over 20 countries, the DEC Global Summit focussed on addressing global challenges and exploring actionable strategies for the integration of digital and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in higher education and skills development.
Significant Developments and Strategic Takeaways from the 2024 Summit:
- DEC 30 Global Challenges in Higher Education Document: DEC identified 30 pressing challenges — ranging from ethical AI integration to aligning curriculum with industry needs — that call for proactive solutions from educators, policymakers, and industry leaders worldwide.
- Joint Communiqué for Responsible AI and Sustainable Education: 61 representatives from leading institutions have signed the Digital Education Council Joint Communiqué to commit to advancing AI and sustainable innovation.
- ‘AI Idiots’ vs. Augmented Workforce Industry Roundtable: Industry and universities came together to stress the need for governance reforms to move beyond technical skills and promote analytical abilities and creativity. A whitepaper summarising the session will be released in January 2025.
The DEC Global Summit 2024 focussed on 3 key themes:
1. AI as a Force for Good: Strategies for Long-term Success
2. Governance and Sustainability: Ensuring Responsible Innovation
3. Capturing Future Readiness: Empowering People for the Future of Work
